Flood Advisory issued for parts of Wayne County

What about our weekend forecast?

Just like yesterday, widely scattered thunderstorms have developed over parts of the area.  Most of us aren’t getting a drop but, where it’s raining, those storms aren’t moving much.  Downriver is one spot that’s really getting it, and a Flood Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service until 5:45 PM.  Yesterday evening, only two real storms popped up, but the one over parts of Monroe County dropped an astounding 2.50” of rain, based upon radar estimates!

Fortunately, I don’t expect any severe weather, so this rain (aside from any street flooding, of course) is a very beneficial rain considering the drought conditions we’re experiencing.  The activity should tend to gradually diminish for the second half of tonight, with lows in the mid 60s (that’s 19° Celsius for our Canadian neighbors) in our Urban Heat Island, but cooler in the Thumb, where the light northeast winds are bringing in cooler air off of Lake Huron.

Saturday looks quite similar to today, with a gradually increasing chance of scattered thunderstorms.  Again, not everybody will get this much-needed rain.  Highs in the low 80s (28° Celsius), but cooler in the Thumb.

Scattered showers and storms should slowly taper off Saturday night, with lows in the mid 60s (19° Celsius).

Sunday is actually now more of a close call based upon today’s computer models, which are slowing down the progress of the upper level trough of low pressure that’s crossing the Great Lakes this weekend.  Right now, I’m holding on to a tenuously dry forecast, with mostly cloudy skies becoming partly sunny during the afternoon.  Highs near 80° (27° Celsius).

As I’ve been mentioning all week long, we then get into a dry pattern with steadily warming temperatures.  Expect mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies Monday through Thursday, with highs warming from the mid 80s (30° Celsius) on Monday to near 90° (32° Celsius) on Thursday.  Overnight lows shouldn’t be oppressive until we get to Wednesday night and Thursday night.

Our next chance of widespread thunderstorms is now on Friday with a cold front swinging through.  Let’s hope we get them, because I think we’ll see another dry spell after that.
