Forecast: Chance for severe storms Wednesday in metro Detroit

What about this weekend?

DETROIT – Before getting into the forecast, just a quick word that our revolutionary and exclusive Local 4 Storm Pins app is FREE from the app store.

Yesterday, some of you contacted me with comments that you were asked for a credit card number to buy the app. That shouldn't happen -- there is no charge for the app. Just go to the app store and search under WDIV, Storm Pins is right there.

Yesterday, its debut day, so many of you downloaded the app and registered as users that Storm Pins instantly became the 15th most popular weather app in the NATION -- and that was just on day one! Imagine where it'll be in a couple of weeks! Come on, let's make DETROIT's Storm Pins app a top five weather app!

Alright, on to the forecast:

Today's severe storms didn't materialize. We came close, but the weather mostly developed just to our east. However, there's another chance late tonight during the pre-dawn hours. Lows in the mid to upper 60s, with a light and variable wind.

We'll have more thunderstorm chances on Wednesday, with one potential batch arriving pre-dawn, and another chance by late afternoon. Strong to severe storms are still possible, so make sure your weather radio is plugged in and turned on, track any approaching weather on the Local 4 Weather App, and also download our Storm Pins App. Highs in the mid 80s.

We then continue with our shower and thunderstorm chances for the rest of the week through Sunday. It won't rain all day each day…there will be many dry periods -- but I can't get specific at this point about the timing, as the things that will cause each batch of rain are weak disturbances, and the computer models don't handle the weak ones very well more than a day ahead of time. Highs will generally be in the low 80s, and overnight lows in the mid 60s.

As for Fireworks day on Monday, we still have a chance of showers but, again, I can't get specific about the timing. Stay tuned -- I'll keep you updated on the Fireworks forecast! Of course, the weather is never a problem if you watch Local 4's exclusive coverage! Highs Monday in the upper 70s.
