Forecast: Chilly night in metro Detroit

DETROIT – With all the low clouds and cool air, we were closer to our record lowest high temperature (60 degrees set back in 1940!) than we were to average highs this time of year (81 degrees).

And that's going to set us up for a chilly night.

Overnight, any sprinkles will fade during the evening, but clouds will remain. Lows will drop to around 50 degrees, with a couple north and western locations settling to the upper 40s for an hour or so around sunrise.

Wednesday forecast:

Wednesday, conditions won't differ much from today. Cloudy skies and afternoon sprinkles will keep high temperatures in the mid 60s.

Thursday forecast:

Thursday, we'll start to see some changes. Clouds will start breaking up in the afternoon allowing temperatures to recover to the low and mid 70s. And we won't have to worry about rain.

Friday forecast:

Friday may be the pick day of the week with plenty of sunshine, low humidity and highs in the upper 70s.

Our only significant rain chance will be late on Saturday. And there is still considerable uncertainty about when or if the rain will get us. Right now, it looks like the best chances will be in the southern half of the area. But, that will likely change as we get closer to the weekend.

Regardless of whether the rain shows up, humidity will spike again Sunday as temperatures return to the 80s. Summer makes a triumphant return!
