Forecast: Continued warmth and humidity in metro Detroit

But what about thunderstorm chances?

DETROIT – Not much change to the forecast I gave you yesterday -- we'll be continued warm and humid right through the weekend.

The biggest question mark in the forecast continues to be those small, upper level disturbances that, in normal situations, might not have much impact on our weather but, given how warm, humid and unstable the atmosphere is this week, could be all it takes to trigger scattered thunderstorms.

Skies should become mostly clear again tonight, with areas of fog possible later at night. Lows near 70° (21° Celsius for you Canadians). Very light southwest wind.

Mostly sunny to start on Wednesday, followed by partly cloudy skies as cumulus clouds begin popping up. And that may not be all that pops up -- a few, isolated thunderstorms are possible by mid to late afternoon, although most of us won't see any rain. Highs again in the upper 80s (31° Celsius). Southwest wind at 7 to 12 mph. Wednesday's sunrise is at 6:59 AM, and Wednesday's sunset is at 8:06 PM.

Partly cloudy Wednesday night, with lows near 70.

An upper level disturbance that looks a bit more robust than the others we'll be seeing this week encroaches upon our area on Thursday, with a better chance of scattered thunderstorms, and a strong-to-severe storm wouldn't be out of the question. Highs in the mid to upper 80s.

A scattered storm is still possible during the first half of Thursday night, with lows in the upper 60s.

Partly cloudy on Friday with a stray thunderstorm possible, and highs in the mid 80s.

The weekend looks continued hot and humid, with highs in the mid to upper 80s -- it'll be a warm one at Arts, Beats and Eats in Royal Oak!

Labor Day's weather depends upon which model you want to buy into. The ECMWF model holds off an approaching cold front until Monday night and Tuesday morning, while the GFS model brings it in sooner -- and some thunderstorm potential late in the day. I just don't have enough of a handle on this right now to know which way to go with this, so stay tuned -- I'll keep you updated on the holiday weather.

After Labor Day, temps come back down to normal (70s to near 80°), and we lose the humidity, too!
