Forecast: Dry days before possible snow in metro Detroit

DETROIT – Showers will exit before midnight as a cold front rolls through.

Any gusty winds will calm down overnight. Overnight lows will fall to the upper 40s by daybreak.

Thursday and Friday forecast:

Thursday and Friday will be dry. Highs Friday will hit the mid 50s. But Friday we'll only get to the mid 40s by afternoon. Partly cloudy skies Thursday will improve to plenty of sunshine on Friday.

Saturday forecast:

Then Saturday, clouds will increase ahead of, potentially, our first accumulating snow of the season. Right now it looks like the core of the snow will be across northern lower Michigan, while we remain on the storm's edge. It's too early to attach accumulation totals to this forecast. But IF the path remains to our north, with a warm ground and a relatively mild week leading up to the event, I would be surprised to see anything more than an inch of snow, and most likely less.

So let's agree to meet again tomorrow once the system is finally onshore from the Pacific, and we should have more solid data to consider.

Regardless of our snow output, tumbling temperatures are a solid bet. Highs will barely touch 40 Saturday, and struggle to get above freezing on Sunday.
