Forecast: Rain on the wane in metro Detroit

But temps are changing, too

DETROIT – Rain will continue diminishing this afternoon as a cold front sweeps across our area.

This front is nothing more than the front edge of a colder, drier air mass. You'll notice the changes after it passes by: temperatures will drop from the 70s into the 60s (from around 25° Celsius to around 20° Celsius for you Canadians), dewpoint temperatures (an indicator of moisture in the air) will fall dramatically -- indicative of drier air moving in, and wind will shift from the southwest to the northwest.

Weekend forecast:

Saturday and Sunday are extremely challenging to predict right now, as a series of weak upper level disturbances are projected to cross the Great Lakes region. Not only is timing these little waves exceptionally problematic this far in advance, but assessing the thermodynamic structure of the atmosphere they'll run into is also difficult. The best I can tell you right now is that I cannot rule out possible thunderstorms, but it won't be a situation where it's going to rain all day each day. I hope to start getting a better handle on things tomorrow, and I'll update you then. Highs this weekend should be around 80°.
