Forecast: Rain on the way to metro Detroit

But will it wash out the weekend?

After a chilly few days this week, temperatures are expected to rise for a spring-like weekend.

DETROIT – It certainly was a chilly start to the day, with most areas falling into the 30s before sunrise.

I saw a touch of frost at the bottom of the culverts in my neighborhood -- a nice example of why I always tell you that you are more likely to get frost on these cold, clear, calm nights if you live in a lower area. But the sun came out, and we enjoyed a gorgeous day with temperatures rising into the low to mid 60s.

Clouds will steadily increase tonight, with showers possible after 3-4 a.m. Lows near 50° (that's 10° Celsius for you Canadians). Southeast wind at 4 to 8 mph.

Rain is likely Friday morning (but it's Friday -- nothing's going to bring ME down). The activity should scatter out during the afternoon and, while I cannot rule out an isolated afternoon shower, I think the second half of the day will be more dry than wet. We may even get a few peaks of sun by late afternoon. Highs reaching the mid 70s (24° Celsius). Southwest wind at 10 to 15 mph.

Mostly cloudy and much warmer Friday night. A few light showers are possible late at night. Lows near 60°.

Saturday is still tricky (I may not have a good handle on this until I see tomorrow's computer models), but I am starting to get a feel for how the day will play out. While there could be a stray shower during the morning into the early afternoon, I think that this part of the day will be mostly dry.

That's good news for the thousands of you coming downtown for the Susan B. Komen Race for the Cure Saturday morning, and for the rest of you coming out to Belleville High School to watch the Detroit Tigers Alumni team (I'll be on their team, too) play a charity game at noon. By the way, if you missed my weather article yesterday, for a charitable donation, YOU can play on the team against the Tiger alumni! Details are here.

As we get into the hottest part of the day, scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible -- so keep an eye on your Local4Casters weather app radar for any developing weather. Highs Saturday should reach the upper 70s.

A scattered light shower is possible Saturday night, with lows in the mid 60s.

Sunday will become breezy, with another chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms. Continued warm with highs in the low 80s.

A potentially more organized batch of showers and thunderstorms are possible Sunday night, with lows in the mid 60s.

The timing of Monday's showers and thunderstorms will coincide with the timing of a cold front crossing the area. I don't think it'll rain all day, but a line of showers and storms will move through at some point (and hopefully be long gone well before the WDIV Fighting Peacocks softball game Monday evening). We'll also get at least partial sunshine Monday. Highs in the low 80s.

Cooler air filters in Monday night, with lows in the mid 40s.

Then expect what appears to be dry conditions from Tuesday through the end of the week, with highs generally rising from the low 60s on Tuesday (a breezy day, too…it's going to feel chilly) to near 70° by Friday. Lows Wednesday through Friday will be in the 40s.
