DETROIT – There will be increasing clouds tonight, with lows in the upper teens and light and variable wind.
A weak cold front crossing the state on Tuesday will bring snow to the area, but probably not until after 7:30 to 8 a.m. It's a close call with the morning rush hour but, right now, it appears that we'll get through at least part of it dry.
I'll keep a close eye on the timing and send you a quick update on Twitter (@PaulGrossLocal4) if there are any last minute changes. Most of us should receive less than an inch of snow, with the best chance to pick up an inch being from M-59 northward. Highs in the upper 20s, with a southwest wind shifting to the northwest at 10 to 20 mph.
Tuesday forecast:
Becoming mostly clear Tuesday night, with near-record lows around 10 degrees (a little warmer in the Urban Heat Island, and colder -- as it typically is -- away from the larger cities).
Wednesday forecast:
Mostly sunny on Wednesday, with well-below average highs in the mid 20s. Increasing clouds Wednesday night, with lows in the low 20s.
Thursday forecast:
Interesting forecast for Thursday. Rain is on the way, but it's a race against time between the moisture arriving and temperatures aloft rising above freezing. We could start as a wintry mix (best chance, of course, is the farther north you are), and then change to rain. Highs eventually making it up to near 40. Rain likely Thursday night, with temperatures steady in the low 40s.
Friday forecast:
Rain in the morning diminishes during Friday afternoon. We might even catch a peek of sun by late afternoon. Highs in the upper 40s. Partly cloudy Friday night. Lows in the upper 20s.
Weekend forecast:
Partly cloudy both Saturday and Saturday night. Highs Saturday in the upper 30s, and lows Saturday night near 30.
Mostly sunny on Sunday, with highs near 50 – a very nice early spring day! Becoming partly cloudy Sunday night, with lows in the upper 30s.
Opening Day forecast:
It's a close call for Opening Day, but I can say with some confidence that it'll be relatively mild compared to where we've been. Highs should reach the mid 50s during the game...we sure won't complain about that! My only concern is the chance for a light shower.
Some of the long range models give us a better chance, while others minimize the chance. I'll keep you updated through the week!
