DETROIT – If you haven't done so already, you'd better make some plans to enjoy this coming weekend -- the weather is going to be spectacular!
Tonight will be dry, with only some periodic high, thin cirrus clouds passing by. Lows in the mid to upper 40s (8° Celsius, for you Canadians), with calm air.
Saturday will feature sunshine and more of those cirrus clouds, with highs reaching the low to mid 70s (22°Celsius), but cooler near the Great Lakes. Southwest wind at 8 to 12 mph.
Saturday's sunrise is at 6:28 AM, and Saturday's sunset is at 8:33 PM.
By the way, the weather looks equally perfect for the Kentucky Derby Saturday afternoon! Mostly sunny skies will grace Churchill Downs, with highs in the mid 70s, and light wind. As usual, NBC's exclusive coverage of what's called the most exciting two minutes in sports is right here on Local 4! So are you cheering for any horse in particular? I always do -- I look for a horse in the race with some "weather" aspect to its name, and there's a dandy this year: I'm pulling for Keen Ice!

Then look for more sunshine and cirrus clouds on Sunday, with most areas reaching the mid 70s!
Partly cloudy Sunday night, with lows in the mid 50s.
Showers and thunderstorms develop on Monday ahead of an approaching cold front, with highs in the low 70s.
Shower and thunderstorm chances continue Monday night, with lows in the upper 40s.
Tuesday is kind of tricky, because the computer models disagree upon how far south the above-mentioned cold front will move before stopping. The GFS and GEM models keep it right along the state line, which would bring us more clouds and renewed shower chances. However, the ECMWF and UKMET models are slightly more aggressive in pushing the front a little farther south into Indiana and Ohio. Right now, my inclination (based upon their consistency this week) is to lean toward the latter two models, and keep Tuesday partly cloudy and dry. The Tuesday forecast is very important because that's the day we go to the polls to vote on the road tax bill, so I'll keep a close eye on the developing weather pattern. Only time will tell, so stay tuned.
Almost forgot to mention that Tuesday will be cooler, with highs in the low to mid 60s.
Partly cloudy Tuesday night, with lows in the upper 40s.
Partly cloudy on Wednesday, as that cold front now reverses course and comes back to the north as a warm front. Remember that the front is just the dividing line between cooler air to the north and warmer air to the south. So when it's moving south it's a cold front because the cold air is moving south and the front is the front edge of that cooler air. When it's moving north, it's a warm front, because the warm air is moving north and the front is the front edge of that warmer air. Right now, I don't expect any precipitation with the front because we'll also have a strong ridge of high pressure aloft moving overhead. But you know what I always say: never trust a warm front. I'll keep an eye on this, too. Highs near 70°.
Partly cloudy Wednesday night, with lows in the mid 50s.
Partly cloudy on Thursday, with highs in the mid to upper 70s!
Partly cloudy Thursday night, with lows near 60°.
Then there's a chance of showers and thunderstorms on Friday as another cold front approaches. Highs in the mid to upper 70s.
