Thunderstorms move through metro Detroit

Then it's back to the good stuff

DETROIT – Thunderstorms have developed right on schedule this afternoon, with torrential downpours, a lot of lightning in spots, and some strong wind gusts possible.

While I do not expect any widespread severe weather, a few storms could approach severe limits, so stay alert. On a positive note, we definitely need the rain so, as long as we can keep their strength at bay, this will be a very beneficial line of storms passing through.

The storms should be gone by 7:00 or 8:00 PM, with skies rapidly clearing after that. The rest of the night should be quiet, with lows in the low to mid 60s (17° Celsius for you Canadians) as cooler, less humid air streams in. Southwest wind at 5 to 10 mph.

Mostly sunny, breezy, cooler and less humid on Thursday -- a splendid summer day -- with highs in the mid 80s (30° Celsius). West wind at 10 to 20 mph. Thursday's sunrise is at 6:24 AM, and Thursday's sunset is at 8:55 PM.

Mostly clear Thursday night, with lows in the low to mid 60s.

Mostly sunny to partly cloudy on Friday, with highs in the mid 80s.

Mostly clear Friday night, with lows in the upper 50s to low 60s.

Mostly sunny on Saturday, with highs in the low 80s.

Mostly clear to partly cloudy Saturday night, with lows in the low to mid 60s.

Partly cloudy with a chance of showers and thunderstorms on Sunday (I still don't have a good handle on the timing). Highs near 80°.

Showers and thunderstorms are still possible Sunday night, with lows in the mid 60s.

More showers and storms are possible on Monday, with highs near 80.

Tuesday and Wednesday now look dry, with highs mostly in the 70s -- perhaps near 80° in the warmest locales.
