DETROIT -

Believe it or not, even colder air penetrates Southeast Michigan Sunday night. The thermometer plummets to the single digits with wind chills below zero for students and workers Monday morning. Monday afternoon with have a few more on and off flakes with highs only in the upper teens. It will still be slippery for football fans traveling back and forth to Ford Field for the Detroit Lions-Baltimore Ravens game.

Tuesday will have a few more snow showers with afternoon highs in the 20s after morning lows in the teens.

Wednesday and Thursday will be excellent car wash-days with sunnier skies. It remains cold with temps in the upper 20s and low 30s.

Friday will be above freezing during the day with highs in the upper 30s and chilly rain possible.

Winter begins with the winter solstice at 12:11pm ET, Saturday. It will be the with the shortest amount of daylight. The good news is, the time of daylight increases until the summer solstice in June.
