Get ready for a warming trend in metro Detroit!

Did the wind give you more or less leaves? (take part in below poll)

DETROIT – Before getting to the forecast, I want to respond to some comments I received yesterday (some not very nice) asking where the wind was.

First of all, we DID get the wind. Detroit Metro Airport reported wind blowing continuously at 40 mph, with gusts to 52 mph when the cold front came through yesterday morning. DTE Energy reported 11,000 customers lost power, and there was some damage around town (the photo we received on Storm Pins showing the tree that was blown down onto the carport, destroying it and badly damaging the cars underneath, was particularly striking to me).

The second batch of wind that was expected by late afternoon did not materialize as strong as expected, but we still have numerous wind gusts between 30 and 40 mph -- that's nothing to sneeze at.

Did the wind deposit more leaves on your lawn?

Now that we're at the back-end of this wind event, I've been wondering about something. For two days now, people have been telling me that the wind either gave them all of their neighbors' leaves, or blew all of theirs away. So, I thought it would be fun to do a little poll here and see if the wind helped or hurt your fall leaf cleanup job.

Please only vote once! I'm looking forward to seeing the results!

Alright, on to the forecast:

Showers will taper off, and wind will gradually settle down into the 10 to 15 mph range overnight. Some breaks in the cloud cover should commence sometime after midnight. Lows in the low 30s (0° Celsius for our Canadian neighbors).

Even if we start off with some clouds on Saturday, these clouds will steadily erode, and we should see mostly sunny skies by afternoon. Highs in the upper 40s (9° Celsius). Southwest wind at 8 to 13 mph.

Mostly clear Saturday night, with lows in the mid 30s (2° Celsius).

Mostly sunny and much warmer on Sunday, with highs in the upper 50s (15° Celsius).

Mostly clear Sunday night, with lows near 40° (4° Celsius).

Mostly sunny to partly cloudy on Monday. Highs in the mid 50s (13° Celsius).

Becoming cloudy Monday night, with lows in the mid 40s (7° Celsius).

Mostly cloudy Tuesday with a chance of rain showers by afternoon. Highs in the mid to upper 50s (14° Celsius).

Rain is likely Tuesday night, with lows in the upper 40s (9° Celsius).

Rain is likely on Wednesday, with highs near 60° (16° Celsius)! Hopefully we'll get a good soaking rain from this system, because parts of the Metro Area are now officially classified as being in moderate drought. We desperately need some solid rainfall before the ground freezes for the winter.

More rain is possible Wednesday night, with lows in the mid 40s (8° Celsius).

Partly cloudy on Thursday with a chance of showers. Highs in the upper 50s (14° Celsius).

Partly cloudy and much cooler on Friday, with highs in the upper 40s (8° Celsius).
