Good Friday, Passover are cool, some rain in metro Detroit

DETROIT – Welcome to Good Friday and Passover.

Sunset is at 8:01pm EDT. An on and off wet pattern affects Detroit and Southeast Michigan through the weekend, the Detroit Tigers home opener and early next week. The sunniest day will be Saturday.

Friday afternoon will be cloudy with a chance of rain showers after lunchtime. Drivers headed home, going out to relax or picking up children will need to use caution on wet roads. Afternoon highs will be near 55°F. The combination of damp conditions a 4 to 9 mph northeast wind and cool conditions will mean a jacket or all-weather coat will be needed.

Friday evening will have on and off rain for anyone with plans for dinner out on the town.

People planning for a night out on the town may see a few snowflakes mixing with rain drops north of 8 Mile Road after midnight. Fortunately, there will be no heavy accumulation, but people must remain alert on slick streets and sidewalks.

Families can enjoy sunshine Saturday with slightly chillier conditions. Morning lows will be near freezing. Afternoon highs will be in the upper 40s; 5 to 10 degrees below average.

FINAL FOUR WEATHER

Michigan State University Spartans fans driving to Indianapolis for the Final Four will run have sunny conditions there, too, in the afternoon. By the 6:09pm EDT tip-off, skies will be mostly clear and it will be chillier. Temps fall from highs in the low 50s to temps in the 40s then 30s by Saturday night. Green and white sweatshirts, coats, hats, gloves are scarves are in order.

Happy Easter! Sunrise is at 7:09am EDT for sunrise services. Scattered rain returns to Motown early morning, Sunday. Then skies will be mostly cloudy, and it will be cool with highs near 50°F in the afternoon. Red sweatshirts and  warm jackets or coats are needed outside Joe Louis Arena before and after the Detroit Red Wings play the Washington Capitals.

Monday is the home opener for the Detroit Tigers. The first pitch is at 1:08pm EDT, and despite on and off rain returning, the game will likely begin on time. Baseball fans will need their Tigers jackets and hats to remain warm as Pitcher David Price and the crew take on the Minnesota Twins. Keep a poncho handy for the nuisance rain. Temps will be in the chilly upper 40s just before the game an in the low 50s after the Tigers win.

Tuesday and Wednesday will be just like Monday. Scattered showers are in the forecast with highs just above 50°F under mostly gray skies.
