Heavier rain arrives Sunday afternoon

Temps rise to the 50s

DETROIT – Sunday and Monday will be the warmest days of the week but also the wettest. Then colder air and snow return for Travel Day, Wednesday through Thanksgiving Weekend, including America's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Sunday morning will be cloudy and wet. Fortunately, temperatures will be above freezing all morning; before sunrise and certainly after sunrise. The thermometer will start in the upper 30s under cloudy skies. Families driving to and from services must still drive and walk with caution because scattered rain is possible from low-hanging clouds.

More widespread rain arrives by late-Sunday afternoon. While the Detroit Lions play the New England Patriots in Foxboro, Massachusetts, under partly sunny skies with temps in the low 50s, the Motor City area will have 50-plus degree weather but with moderate to heavy rain arriving by 5pm and afterward. Detroit's afternoon temps will be near 50 degrees.

Sunday evening will be soggy, but temperatures keep rising. Temps will be in the low 50s.

Sunday night will be wet before dawn, Monday. Temps may retreat but not by much. Overnight lows will fluctuate between the upper 40s and low 50s.

Monday remains warm with scattered rain showers. Highs will be in the middle and upper 50s. What's interesting is that those maximum readings on the thermometer will occur during the middle of the day; at lunchtime. As a cold front approaches and passes, the mercury will fall dramatically through the 50s and 40s into the 30s by Monday evening and Monday night. By then, snowflakes will mix with raindrops

Tuesday and the rest of the week will be colder with snow showers at times. Tuesday will be cold with highs in the low 30s and lows in the 20s and snow showers.

Travel Day, Wednesday will be sunnier but remain colder than average. Highs will be near 35 degrees after morning lows in the low 20s.

Snow showers return for America's Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday. Morning temps will be in the 20s. Afternoon temps will be in the low and middle 30s. Eager shoppers need to find a good way to stay warm early Friday morning as it becomes frigid. Friday morning temps will be in the teens and 20s and families shop for deals. The rest Thanksgiving Weekend will be partly to mostly sunny, and it will feel like its January or February.
