DETROIT – I've been telling you since last week to expect another extended stretch of gorgeous September weather, and here it is. In fact, I don't see any rain in the forecast through early next week!
This is thanks to a jet stream (band of strongest wind aloft) that has pushed well north into Canada -- taking the storm track with it and allowing warmer air to spread northward.

The only downside is that we still need rain.
Some of us got a good soaking Friday night into Saturday (I had almost an inch at my house), while others didn't receive nearly as much (Metro Airport only got 0.40").
The official statistics for southeast Michigan are based upon Metro Airport records and, based upon those stats, some of you have received less than half of your average September rainfall through today, and I don't see a drop possibly through the end of the month.
In case you missed my explanation last week, getting some soil moisture during the fall is critical, because if we are abnormally dry when the ground freezes for the winter, then that's how we'll start the spring. And if we get a dry spring with no soil moisture to work with when the ground thaws, then farmers (and your lawns) will be in serious trouble. So, while we enjoy these amazing September days, let's also hope for some rain in October so we can catch up.
My forecast through Tuesday of next week is for mostly sunny skies (occasionally partly cloudy on a couple of days), with highs in the 70s (22° to 25° Celsius for our Canadian neighbors) and overnight lows in the 50s (10° to 14° Celsius). There's really not much more I can say about the forecast right now -- it's that simple. Tuesday's sunrise is at 7:20 AM, and Tuesday's sunset is at 7:31 PM.
The weather looks spectacular this week for the Jewish High Holy Day of Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement) Tuesday evening through Wednesday, as well as for the Muslim Festival of Eid al-Adha (Feast of Sacrifice) Wednesday evening through Thursday!
And for those of you keeping track, fall officially begins at 4:21 a.m. Wednesday. No need to set an alarm -- you won't see anything.
