Increasing clouds, cool Thursday evening

DETROIT – After a frosty morning and milder afternoon with sun, Thursday evening will be cloudier and cool with rain on the way. Dinner and nighttime plans are safe. It remains dry. Showers arrive for Friday morning, but higher temps are on the way for Friday afternoon and Race 4 The Cure Weekend.

Clouds will gather, lower and thicken Thrusday evening as temperatures drop from the 60s to 50s. Fortunately, it remains dry for music fans going to Music artist Jonny Lang's concert at Motor City Soundboard in Detroit and theater fans off to the Grosse Pointe Theatre for The Producers.

Thursday night will be cool, not cold, with lows in the low 50s in the city and upper 40s in Detroit's suburbs. Rain arrives in the wee-hours of Friday morning; after3am. At dawn, light to moderate rain showers will arrive in waves from the west across Motown and Southeast Michigan. Families must be careful on any wet roads. Students can prepare with a wet wait at the bus stop and indoor recess in the morning.

Friday afternoon will be drier with clouds and sunshine. A southerly wind will help temperatures rise to the mid 60s at lunchtime and near 75 degrees Friday afternoon.

The Susan G. Komen Race 4 The Cure occurs Saturday. As thousands gather with Local 4 News in downtown Detroit in the morning, temperatures will start in the low 60s with partly sunny skies. Supporters will staying outdoors for an extended period of time will need to bring rain gear. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop largely during Saturday afternoon and evening. It will be warm with highs near 80 degrees.

A similar wet pattern exists with higher temperatures Sunday and Monday. Showers and thunderstorms are possible Sunday and likely Monday. Highs will be in the low 80s Sunday and middle 80s ahead of a cold front Monday.

After a cold front Monday, cooler weather returns next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday with highs in the 60s and lows in the 40s. Jackets will be pulled out of the closet, again.
