Skies become gray, highs still above freezing

Detroit Area temperatures at 5am ET on Thursday, January 10, 2013.

DETROIT – Thursday morning may be another slippery one as temps dip below freezing, winds die down and patchy fog forms.  The fog will freeze on any surfaces 32 degrees or less.  Any freezing fog will dissipate by noon.  Lunchtime temps will be in the middle 30s.  Afternoon highs will be near 40 despite cloudy skies.

Rain will develop Thursday evening and overnight with heavy downpours possible.  Temps will remain above freezing in the middle 30s.

Friday will be rainy and milder with highs near 50.  Umbrellas will not be needed Saturday, and it will feel like Spring again.  Partly sunny skies and mild air will push afternoon temps into the low 50s.

Typical January weather returns Sunday and early next week.  Rain and snow may fall on Sunday will temps falling into the 30s.  Monday and Tuesday will be chilly but brighter with highs in the 30s and lows in the 20s.
