Intriguing holiday, Opening Day forecast in metro Detroit

Plus, details about tonight's lunar eclipse!

DETROIT – Early evening rain (and even possible wet snowflakes to the north) should end, with skies clearing after midnight.

That's good news, because there's a partial lunar eclipse to see if you'll be up early Saturday morning. The eclipse begins at 6:16 a.m. -- that's when the Earth passes between the sun and the moon, casting its curved shadow on the moon. Unfortunately, since the moon will be low in the western sky, it's going to set before we get to see the total eclipse. But still, if you happen to be out and have a good view of the western horizon, check out the partial eclipse! And by the way, if you manage to snap a nice photo of the eclipse, pin the photo on Storm Pins so we can show it on the air (and you can see each other's photos!).

Lows tonight in the mid 20s, with a northwest wind at 8 to 13 mph.

Saturday's sunrise is at 7:11 AM, and Saturday's sunset is at 8:02 PM.

Saturday will start mostly sunny, then the bulk of the day will become partly cloudy, before skies become mostly sunny again by late afternoon or early evening. At least we'll be able to keep the Matzo dry heading to the second night of Passover Seders -- you can't let that unleavened bread get wet! Highs in the upper 40s.

Increasing clouds with a chance of light rain and/or snow showers developing after midnight. Lows in the low to mid 30s.

Easter Sunday is going to be a very interesting day, weather-wise, and the reason for all of this craziness is a warm front that will bisect our area. We'll start with some rain and wet snow, but the snow will persist longer the farther north of the warm front you are in our area -- and those of you well north of I-69 could possibly see an inch or two of sloppy accumulation!

By contrast, areas well south of Detroit might not see much precipitation at all. The front will also promote an insane temperature differential: temps could reach the upper 50s near the state line, and will stay just in the 40s to the far north. As I said, it's going to be a crazy Easter Sunday across southeast Michigan.

Becoming partly cloudy Sunday night, with lows in the upper 30s to near 40°.

Mostly cloudy on Opening Day, and I still cannot rule out the chance for a few light rain showers during the afternoon. Highs in the low 50s.

Rain showers (possibly mixed with some wet snowflakes) develop Monday night, with lows in the mid 30s.

Then, get ready for a very wet week, with a chance of rain each day through Friday, with highs generally between 50° and 55°.
