Less humidity Thursday in metro Detroit

Showers, storms possible later in day

DETROIT – Although I don't think we'll get many complaints, Wednesday was a whole lot of watching and waiting for thunderstorms, and not a whole lot of action.

However, a severe thunderstorm warning that was issued for central Monroe County late Wednesday night has expired.

The one thing that did happen as expected was the spike in temperatures and humidity. Heat index readings topped 90 degrees, mainly on the east side. As we transition past sunset (which, by the way, is 9:09 p.m.) we'll be mainly clear and those strong winds will die down to just a light breeze by early tomorrow morning.

Expect to wake up to sunshine on Thursday. We'll skate through the daytime hours dry and look for a few scattered showers or thunderstorms to pop up around sunset through midnight or so. Temperatures will max out in the mid-to-upper 70s, but with lower humidity.

Friday forecast:

Then Friday brings our best shot of rain in the forecast. Right now it looks to be about lunchtime. This will be mainly rain with some thunder and should be out of here by early evening. Temps will spike again into the mid-80s, but the early onset of showers may keep those numbers down. We'll have to watch the rain timing as we head into Friday morning.

Weekend forecast:

The weekend forecast has been all over the road in the past few days. As of right now it looks like we'll get through *most* of the two days completely dry. Saturday will be the pick day of the two... partly cloudy and highs in the upper 70s. Sunday will bring an afternoon chance of rain after a dry morning and midday. Temps start ramping back into the 80s beginning Sunday and stretching into the middle of next week.

And finally, I want to wish happy birthday to my dad. We had a great time celebrating it early back in Indiana last weekend. I got scorched playing cornhole and Frisbee cups (my sister Ashley had to teach me how to play). So if you see my forehead peeling on TV, you'll know why. So don't be like me -- remember your sunscreen!
