Local 4casters: Another near record day in store for Metro Detroit

Temperatures will climb to the mid-90s with hazy sunshine and a warm breeze

DETROIT – Consumers Energy is close to restoring power to 3,470 customers affected by a substation failure in the Montrose area between Flint and Saginaw.

The CMS Energy Corp. unit said Wednesday that temporary repairs to a substation transformer will be completed by mid-morning. That timetable should allow those who lost power to fire up their air conditioners before temperatures again reach the 90s.

The affected customers live in Montrose and Vienna townships in Genesee County and Maple Grove Township in Saginaw County.

The cause of the transformer failure isn't known.

In southeast Michigan, DTE said about 4,000 DTE Energy Co. customers were without power in the Detroit suburb of Berkley Wednesday morning. But power was restored at 8 a.m.

Temps still hover near 100

We officially tied the record high in Detroit Tuesday hitting 95 degrees. It's a taller task today because the record to beat is 97 Wednesday. Hazy sunshine and warm breezes will kick our temps to near 95 degrees again, and just shy of the record. It's also an Ozone Action Day which means potential trouble for those with heart conditions, asthma, and anyone trying to over do it outdoors.

Thursday will start muggy and we may see temps near 90 degrees depending on the timing of a cold front. That front will bring scattered storms late morning through afternoon and then a nice refreshing cool down by evening.
