DETROIT – Some uncertainty remains on the Christmas storm, but some details are also becoming apparent.
If you or anybody you know will be traveling around Christmas, keep checking my updated forecast every day, and follow me on Twitter (@PaulGrossLocal4) for other updates.
When we get closer to Christmas and this storm starts showing up on our in-office computer model, I'll see about tweeting some of those images to you. One of the storm's biggest impacts likely will be wind.
Tonight could start with a few lingering patches of freezing drizzle, but this should end. Clouds will hang tough most of the night, before partial clearing over northern lower Michigan starts to make a move south. I think most of us stay cloudy, but those of you north of I-69 may have a shot at some partial late night clearing. Lows in the mid 20s. Northwest wind at 4 to 8 mph.
Mostly cloudy to start, with some sunshine gradually moving south through the day. Those of you to the north stand the best chance of getting into some mostly sunny skies, while those of you farther south will keep the cloud cover longest. Highs in the low to mid 30s. Northwest wind at 4 to 8 mph.
Mostly clear Friday night, with lows in the low to mid 20s.
Mostly sunny to partly cloudy on Saturday, with highs in the low to mid 30s.
Partly cloudy Saturday night. Lows in the mid 20s.
Mostly cloudy on Sunday, with highs in the mid 30s.
Mostly cloudy Sunday night, with lows in the upper 20s.
Mostly cloudy on Monday, with the chance for a rain shower, late (right now, I think most of the daytime hours will be dry). Highs in the upper 30s.
Rain showers possibly mixed with a few wet snowflakes Monday night. Lows in the mid 30s.
Rain showers likely on Tuesday, with highs in the low 40s.
Rain showers change to snow showers Tuesday night. Lows in the mid 30s.
Cloudy with snow showers on Wednesday … will it be enough to give us a White Christmas? Stay tuned!
Highs in the upper 30s.
Note: if you'll be traveling on the east side of any of the Great Lakes Wednesday or Thursday, keep in mind that there could be some ferocious lake effect snow squalls with near blizzard conditions in these areas.
Snow showers continue Christmas Eve. Becoming windy. Lows in the upper 20s.
Very windy with snow showers on Christmas Day. Highs in the low 30s. It's too early to say if this will be "just" a windy day, or if wind gusts will be strong enough to cause widespread power outages, but this is something I'll be focusing on over the next few days.
