DETROIT – Although some snow showers are possible overnight, our next widespread snow chance comes on Wednesday.
Light snow will develop in the morning and then end by dinner time. The heart of Metro Detroit should receive 1/2 to 1 inch with slightly more possible in southern Lenawee and Monroe counties, and less north of M-59.
Highs will be in the low 20s which, combined with a west-southwest wind at 10 to 15 mph, will create wind chills of 0 to 10 above. The fresh snow pack and another push of Arctic air will drop lows Wednesday night well down into the single numbers. It will be a brutally cold start to your Thursday morning.
Our next weather system approaches for the end of the week. I'm still tracking a winter storm that could bring a few inches of snow late Friday night into Saturday. The computer models still have not come into agreement about the storm's path or even its intensity, but this is not unusual given that the upper atmospheric disturbance that will eventually cause this storm is way out over the Pacific (we don't have many weather balloon launches over the ocean, like we do over the continent -- which give us important information about the upper level structure of these disturbances).
Some of the models give us a minor snowfall, while one model actually suggests a more sizable winter storm. I'll just have to wait until the upper air disturbance gets to the west coast and then watch the computer model consensus develop.
Of course, I'll keep you posted.
Following this, a much weaker system approaches on Tuesday with more light snow.
The overall weather pattern for the next three weeks looks mostly cold so, if we get enough snow over the next week, I think there's a chance it'll stick around and give us a White Christmas! But as we say here in the TV business, stay tuned.
