Metro Detroit drying out

Dry three days ahead

DETROIT – Following Monday's historic rain event and catastrophic flooding, we need a break, and Mother Nature should cooperate with three dry days ahead.

Sunshine will carry into the afternoon, before skies become partly cloudy by late afternoon.  Highs in the mid 70s, with a fresh northwest wind at 10 to 15 mph.

Becoming mostly clear tonight, with lows in the low to mid 50s in and near Detroit, and in the upper 40s to near 50 in the typically colder suburbs.  By the way, tonight's record low is 48, set back in 1964.

Mostly sunny both Thursday and Friday, with highs only near 70 on Thursday, and in the mid 70s on Friday.  Overnight lows will be in the upper 40s to low 50s.

Saturday should start dry, but shower and thunderstorm chances ramp up during the afternoon into Saturday night.  Highs in the upper 70s.

The rest of the extended forecast is very uncertain, as the computer models are all over the place with the evolving weather pattern.  Some models keep us bone dry Sunday through Tuesday, while other models offer rain chances.  Right now, I'm tentatively leaning toward the drier weather solutions, but I have below average confidence in the Sunday thru Tuesday forecast.  Highs should average around 80 degrees.

Stay tuned -- I'll keep you updated through the week.
