DETROIT – Our weather scenario is playing out exactly as expected all week long. Cooler air is oozing in behind a cold front and, while I don’t see a return to the warmth we’ve had all week long, that doesn’t mean we won’t see some very nice fall weather ahead.
In fact, as you’ll read later on, there’s a gorgeous stretch coming up in my extended forecast.

A few scattered showers developed Friday afternoon behind the cold front that passed through the area earlier in the day. In case you’re wondering how that happened, fronts are three-dimensional, and usually it’s the surface part of the front that generates precipitation. But Friday, the part aloft lagged behind the surface front and triggered a few showers.
Showers mainly affected areas south of 8 Mile Road, and should taper off Friday evening. Based on the 4km 15Z RPM model, our northern and western suburbs – if they get some clearing Friday night – could potentially see some dense fog develop at night. Lows Friday night will drop into the mid-50s, or 12 degrees Celsius for our Canadian friends using the metric system. North-northeast winds will blow at 4 to 8 mph.
Those of us to the south will start our Saturday with mostly cloudy skies, while partly cloudy skies grace areas farther north. Dense fog, if it develops, should thin by 10 a.m. Clouds will continue a steady diminishing trend toward mostly sunny skies by afternoon, and that’s great news for our afternoon football games in East Lansing, Ann Arbor and the rest of lower Michigan.
Highs will generally be around 70 degrees (21 degrees Celsius). Northeast winds will blow at 5 to 10 mph. Dry weather is just what the doctor ordered for Saturday morning’s CureSearch Walk for Children’s Cancer on the Detroit Riverwalk. Registration is at 9 a.m., and the walk begins at 10:30 a.m.
Saturday’s sunrise is at 7:23 a.m., and Saturday’s sunset is at 7:26 p.m.
It will become mostly clear Saturday night, with lows near 50 degrees (10 degrees Celsius).
It will be mostly sunny to partly cloudy on Sunday, with highs in the low 70s (22 degrees Celsius). The weather will be great for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation One Walk at Milliken State Park in Detroit. Come support my close friend Brandon Roux at the walk. Clouds will increase late Sunday night, with lows in the mid-50s (14 degrees Celsius).
Monday will become cloudy and breezy, with rain developing as the next cold front approaches. Highs will be in the upper 60s (20 degrees Celsius).

Any lingering showers should end Monday night, with lows near 50 degrees (10 degrees Celsius).
It will be partly cloudy and windy on Tuesday, with highs in the mid-60s (19 degrees Celsius).
Friday's long-range models agree on a large dome of high pressure across the Great Lakes from Wednesday through next weekend, with gradually moderating temperatures. It looks like we will get a fine stretch of beautiful fall weather with plenty of sunshine and comfortable highs, generally between 68 degrees and 73 degrees (20 degrees and 23 degrees Celsius).
