Metro Detroit forecast: Cloudy and cool start

Temps warming to 40s later

I regret to inform you that the sun will once again elude our skies for most of your Thursday.

Metro Detroit will be cloudy and cool to start today with temps near freezing and wind chills in the mid 20s as you head out. There’s enough of a breeze to eliminate the threat of fog, but the low clouds are going to remain in place this morning. Just as the low clouds lift out, high clouds will be streaming in from the south. Our window for sun is limited to a couple of hours this afternoon and that will be milky or hazy sun through those high clouds. As a result, highs not as warm as we had hoped, but still mild in the low to maybe mid 40s this afternoon and light winds SW 5-10 mph.

Those high clouds are the leading edge of moisture moving up from the Gulf of Mexico and we should have rain moving into Metro Detroit overnight into your Friday. This should be mostly rain, although a brief time of freezing rain is possible through the early morning hours tomorrow. The window for wet weather will be 3am to noon Friday meaning the start of the Meridian Winter Blast should start with mostly cloudy skies, temps again in the low 40s with nothing more than a few spotty showers through the late afternoon. You should anticipate mostly dry and mild conditions.

Metro Detroit will see 50 degree plus temps Saturday and Sunday. The warm front moving through Saturday may bring a scattered shower or two with it, as most of the day will be just mostly cloudy and warmer.  Another wave of rain comes in late Sunday into Monday although models this morning keep most of the energy south of us into Ohio.  Winter returns mid to late next week with colder temps and light snow chances by Wednesday and Thursday. You can stay ahead of the rain and when the cold returns with the Local4Casters app and take the weather with you.
