Metro Detroit weather forecast: Cold, breezy, snowy Friday

Signicifant snow expected this weekend

DETROIT – Still cold, breezy, and snowy to start your Friday, but the snow showers are widely scattered about. Like yesterday, an occasional snow band can lay down a slick coating and reduce visibility so be careful, especially driving west.

We still have Winter Weather Warnings in Western Michigan closer to Lake Michigan and traveling will again be very dangerous. We will see a few peeks of sunshine as the winds relax from time to time. Wind chills in the teens as you head out early, and highs later in the low 30s feeling like low 20s all afternoon. Those winds WSW 7-15 mph gusting a bit stronger.

Saturday

Saturday will be a lot like the last couple of days with just a little less snow and flurry activity. Skies will be mostly cloudy with light flakes flying all day not adding up to much. Temps are going to hang in the 20s all day tomorrow feeling like the teens at times as our westerly winds continue, just a bit lighter.

Sunday snow

A snow storm moves in around midnight into early Sunday and will bring accumulating snow to SE Lower Michigan and Southern Ontario. The early morning round will lay down a quick couple of inches toward sunrise. We will likely see a lull in the action midday, and then more snow develops by late afternoon and evening and round two could bring several more inches. The computer model data has been fairly consistent around Metro Detroit getting 2-5 inches.

If we are on the higher end of predictions and it is heaviest late Sunday into early Monday, we may see some schools with late starts or snow days?

Remember, check school closings here.

We will, as always, keep you aware and prepared.  Another accumulating snow is heading our way Tuesday late into Wednesday. Stay ahead of snow and cold with the Local4Casters app and take the weather with you.
