Metro Detroit forecast: Finally, a great day! How long will it last?

Plus, how you can meet Brandon and Ben on Wednesday!

DETROIT – A quiet week of weather like this one is a great week to kick off our annual Weather Radio Campaign, and that also gives you a chance to meet Brandon Roux and Ben Bailey in person tomorrow!

This campaign is the single most important public service effort that we've done here at Local 4 during my thirty-two year career. Since we began the program, between 35,000 and 40,000 radios have been purchased and, as in past years, the radios will once again be sold at a significantly reduced promotional price. Our goal is to get these radios into every home, school and business: it's basically a "smoke detector for severe weather" -- it sits silently on a desk or table and only sounds an alarm when whatever warning you program it to alert you to is issued (and you also program it to only let you know about warnings for the county or counties you care about, so you don't get bothered by warnings that don't affect you).

The radios are available at the special Local 4 price ONLY at local ABC Warehouse and Meijer stores -- and people at the stores will program it for you! We kick off this year's campaign Wednesday at the Livonia ABC Warehouse store at 30280 Plymouth Road. Brandon will be broadcasting his weather from there between 11:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on Live in the D and on Local 4 News at Noon, and Ben will be there doing his weather at 4:00, 5:00 and 6:00 PM. Come on out and say hi!

And by the way, one thing to remember about these radios is that you can take them up north or on vacation elsewhere with you -- they can be programmed to warn you about tornado warnings, etc. for any county in the United States AND Canada!

Fortunately, our weather radios won't be sounding any alarms in the immediate future. Skies will be mostly clear to partly cloudy tonight, with lows in the mid 40s (6° Celsius for you Canadians), with very light wind.

We could see partial sunshine to start our day on Wednesday, but clouds should increase. A few spotty showers are possible by late afternoon or evening. Highs in the low to mid 60s (17° Celsius), with light and variable wind. Incidentally, those of you near Lake Huron may only see highs in the low to mid 50s.

Partly cloudy on Saturday, with highs in the mid to upper 60s. (I should mention that there is a bit of uncertainty with the weekend forecast…a weak disturbance crossing the state may generate a shower at some point IF it gets enough moisture to work with -- I'll keep a close eye on this and update you through the week).
