Metro Detroit forecast: Getting ready to turn the corner

Wait until you see the weekend!

DETROIT – Showers will gradually diminish this evening as an upper level low pressure system currently just south of the state continues moving south.

By the way, it's the counter-clockwise flow around that low which caused today's rain to move in from the east! Those of you who follow me on Twitter (@PGLocal4) saw a bizarre radar loop I tweeted showing this. Clouds will start breaking up after midnight, with low temperatures in the mid 40s (6° Celsius for you Canadians). North-northwest wind at 4 to 8 mph.

Mostly sunny Friday morning, then partly cloudy for some of us as most of my computer models show some cumulus clouds popping up by late morning. If you'll be outside (or at least sitting by a window at work), it's actually fun to watch them develop -- from nothing into those "cotton ball" clouds that are pretty to look at. It's going to be an exceptionally pleasant day, with highs in the upper 60s (20° Celsius)! Northwest wind at 5 to 10 mph.

Friday's sunrise is at 6:29 AM, and Friday's sunset is at 8:32 PM.

Mostly clear Friday night, with lows in the upper 40s.

Mostly sunny on Saturday -- a spectacular start to the weekend…fire up the golf clubs! Highs in the low 70s.

Mostly clear Saturday night, with lows near 50°.

Mostly sunny again on Sunday -- fire up the barbeque! Highs in the mid 70s.

Partly cloudy with a chance of showers and thunderstorms Sunday night. Lows in the mid to upper 50s.

Shower and thunderstorms on Monday hopefully won't be an all-day event -- I really don't want to see the WDIV Fighting Peacocks softball game rained out. Highs in the mid 70s.

More showers and thunderstorms Monday night as a very slow moving cold front takes it's good ol' time moving across the state. Lows in the mid 50s.

There's still a chance of showers and thunderstorms on Tuesday, as the cold front slowly moves south of southeast Michigan. Highs in the mid 60s.

Becoming partly cloudy Tuesday night, with lows near 50°.

Partly cloudy on Wednesday (as long as the above-mentioned cold front stays just south of the state). Highs near 70°.

Partly cloudy on Wednesday night, with lows in the low to mid 50s.

Partly cloudy on Thursday, even though the cold front is going to move back north as a warm front. I've said many times before: never trust a warm front. But right now, the computer models suggest a fairly strong upper level high pressure ridge overhead on Thursday, which would squash any precipitation with the front. Obviously, this is a long ways off but, if the ridge develops as advertised, then next Thursday could be a summer-like day, with highs in the mid to upper 70s.
