Metro Detroit may get some storms this week

Meteorologist Paul Gross says severe storms, heavy rain possible this week in Metro Detroit

DETROIT – This week will feature increasing chances of thunderstorms with several bouts of strong storms in Metro Detroit.

Timing the individual batches of storms is extremely difficult, as they will be caused by upper-level disturbances drifting across the Great Lakes region, as opposed to the "usual" fronts I show you on a surface weather map.

For the latest forecast, conditions and severe weather alerts go to JustWeather.com.

Aside from a few isolated evening thundershowers, we'll see our next round of storms approach late Monday night and Tuesday morning. It's going to be warm and muggy, with lows only near 70.

There could be a break for part of the afternoon Tuesday, but more storms are possible during the heat of the day, with highs again in the mid to upper 80s.

Another cluster of strong or severe storms are possible Tuesday night, and yet another batch on Wednesday. More storms are possible on Thursday, before we start transitioning to "regular" showers for the weekend, with daytime highs cooling well down into the 70s by Saturday and Sunday.

Even if the storms this week don't become severe, keep in mind that torrential downpours are possible, so we need to stay on guard for the potential of flash flooding.
