WARREN, Mich. – The snow falling Tuesday night into Wednesday is a fresh layer on top of what metro Detroit got Sunday, but for people still digging out from that first storm, it's a slap in the face.
In a Warren neighborhood between 12 Mile and Hoover roads, Local 4 News found people still shoveling Tuesday night from snow that fell from Sunday's storm.
"We had to shovel the street ourselves earlier today," one resident said.
Some streets were still a mess at 8 p.m. Tuesday.
"It's been hard to navigate. Multiple people have gotten stuck, my son got stuck," a resident said.
But in all fairness Warren is a huge city with 365 miles of residential roads. Mayor Jim Fouts said they've managed to plow four-fifths of that all within 30 hours.
"I wish we could have done it sooner, but the fact that we had so much to do we were unable to get that completed, sooner than what it was," Fouts said.
"They did a little bit earlier today, but they just did the majority right now," said Michael Simpson. "My wife was really excited that they came and they came just before the snow came."
The mayor said they're working to finish before the next round of snow comes. The city doesn't allow garbage trucks and plow trucks on residential roads on the same day. So if your trash pickup was Monday, you didn't see relief right away.
"On Monday we did Tuesday and Wednesday's garbage route, and then now we're doing Thursday, Friday and Monday garbage routes, and it should be done late tonight," Fouts said. "We had a combination of things to begin with. This is a snow like no one has experienced before even."
