Metro Detroit weather: Chance of severe storms this week

Record warmth returns Friday

DETROIT – Now the weather is seriously looking like spring in Metro Detroit. Temperatures are near 70 degrees and there's a severe storm threat before the weekend.

We'll stay unseasonably mild Wednesday night under clouds. A late light sprinkle is possible overnight, but most of us will stay dry. Look for lows in the low to mid-50s.

Thursday will bring a sun-and-cloud mix and slightly cooler temperatures near 60 degrees.

On Friday, expect breezy conditions with record warmth. Highs will be in the upper 60s before strong and possibly severe thunderstorms arrive in the evening. The most likely threat will be from damaging winds.

Higher chances of severe weather will be in our South Zone, especially Lenawee County. Lower chances will be in the North Zone. Right now, it looks like the storms might last into the overnight hours but be gone before dawn on Saturday.

On Saturday, temperatures will fall from an early high in the mid-40s through the 30s for most of the day. After dry conditions for the first half of the day, we’ll see snow showers late but no accumulation.

Temperatures will recover a bit next week, but nowhere near our recent record-setting stretch this week.
