Metro Detroit weather: Cloudy, wet forecast ahead

Stretch of sunshine ends Tuesday

DETROIT – We've enjoyed the last of the widespread sunshine Tuesday afternoon, but until the end of the weekend, expect a cloudy and wet forecast.

The big area of low pressure swirling to our north will be cut off from the upper level flow, essentially orphaning the system over the Great Lakes. That's what will keep our forecast damp, dreary and virtually unchanged for the next several days.

As clouds move in from the north Tuesday night, a shower is possible in our North Zone while most of us stay dry. Lows will be on either side of 50 degrees.

Wednesday, mainly cloudy skies will persist.  Rain chances increase through the day, becoming likely in the afternoon and evening. Thunder isn't out of the question. Even a bit of small hail is possible in any thunderstorm, but we won't see severe weather. Highs will only reach the low and mid-60s.

Thursday and Friday, rain becomes likely, but timing the precipitation will be difficult with the erratic-moving cut-off low. Highs will still be in the mid-60s.

Saturday and Sunday don't hold much change as of now. We'll have to wait until next week to get some sunshine back in our area.
