Metro Detroit weather forecast: Another taste of summer is on the way!

After a beautiful weekend, we’ve had a spectacular Monday, with plenty of sunshine and mild temperatures.  Only those of you near the big lakes were cooler today as an east wind off those cooler waters held your temps back.

A mostly clear evening will be followed by at least some increase in cloud cover overnight behind a warm front passing through the area.  There’s only a very small chance for a sprinkle or brief, isolated, light shower.  Lows in the upper 40s (9 degrees Celsius).  East wind at 5 to 10 mph.

After a cloudy start Tuesday morning, some sunshine should develop as we progress through the afternoon.  Highs in the upper 60s (20 degrees Celsius).  East wind at 5 to 10 mph means that you east-siders near the big lakes will once again be cooler than the rest of us.

Tuesday’s sunrise is at 6:37 a.m., and Tuesday’s sunset is at 8:26 p.m.

Partly cloudy Tuesday night, with lows in the low to mid 50s (11-12 degrees Celsius).

Partly cloudy and downright summery on Wednesday, with afternoon temperatures soaring into the upper 70s to near 80 degrees (26-27 degrees Celsius).

Partly cloudy Wednesday night, with lows in the low 60s (16 degrees Celsius).

Increasing clouds on Thursday, with some showers developing at some point in the afternoon.  Highs in the mid 70s (24 degrees Celsius).

Showers are still possible Thursday night, with lows in the upper 40s (9 degrees Celsius).  Once the rain ends, skies may begin to clear later at night.

Partly cloudy to start on Friday, then clouds increase once again.  Highs in the mid to upper 60s (19-20 degrees Celsius).

Weekend Forecast

Unfortunately, the upcoming weekend weather doesn’t look too promising.  Rain should develop at some point during the day Saturday, with good chances for rain Saturday night into Sunday.  Our only hope is that Saturday’s approaching front slows down, which would delay the rain’s arrival.  Obviously, it’s still very early in the game, so stay tuned…I’ll continue to update you through the week.  Temperatures this weekend appear to remain relatively mild, with highs in the mid to upper 60s (19-20 degrees Celsius) on Saturday, and potentially back into the mid 70s (23-24 degrees Celsius) on Sunday.

Weather Radio Campaign Kickoff

Don’t forget that the Local4Casters kick off this year’s Weather Radio Campaign this Wednesday at the Meijer store on Warren Road in Westland.

While you can buy a weather radio at the special Local 4 discounted price at ANY Meijer store, Brandon and Ben will be broadcasting live between 11:00 am and 7:00 pm from the Westland store, where you can also have your radio programmed for the specific county of your choice.

Plus, this year Duracell is giving away FREE batteries for every weather radio purchased!  Since our campaign began seven years ago, over 40,000 radios have been purchased here in southeast Michigan.  Remember that  you can’t always rely upon your cell phone to alert you about a warning – but your weather radio will always sound the alarm when the warning is issued.  We hope to see you there!  It’s important to note that these radios are portable…you can program them to alert you to whatever warnings you want in any county in the U.S. or Canada.  So, let’s say you’re heading up north for a week…take your radio with you!  Remember:  every county in Michigan has been struck by at least one tornado since 1950.
