Metro Detroit weather forecast: See the record temps we're chasing this weekend

Record temperatures, here you come.

Everything with the warming trend we've been forecasting continued on schedule today, even though we're still in the middle of a quick cold snap -- a colder air mass that only dropped temperatures back closer to our long-term average. Starting tomorrow, we go right back up and, for the next week, temperatures won’t be anywhere close to normal (but that’s okay, because neither am I).

Tonight will feature partly cloudy skies, as we’ll have some cirrus and patchy altostratus clouds passing through from time to time although, by later tonight, I think we’ll be mostly clear.  Lows in the mid-20s (-4 degrees Celsius). Wind becoming southeast, at 3 to 6 mph.

Mostly sunny to start our Friday, with a band of either higher altostratus clouds or cirrus clouds crossing the area midday ahead of an approaching warm front. Highs ranging from low 40s (5 degrees Celsius) in the Thumb to near 50 degrees (10 degrees Celsius) in Lenawee County. The “heart” of our metropolitan area should reach the mid-40s (8 degrees Celsius). A south wind will develop, at 5-10 mph.

Friday’s sunrise is at 7:26 a.m., and Friday’s sunset is at 6:09 p.m.

Mostly clear Friday night with some fog possibly developing as warmer air flows in over the colder ground.  Lows in the mid 30s (2 degrees Celsius).

Before getting to the warm part of the forecast, I want to remind you of our records over the next few days (in case you didn’t see my article yesterday):

Here are the record highs we’re shooting for:

Saturday:  62 degrees (16.7 degrees Celsius)

Sunday:  64 degrees (17.8 degrees Celsius)

Monday:  63 degrees (17.2 degrees Celsius)

Tuesday:  63 degrees (17.2 degrees Celsius)

Wednesday:  65 degrees (18.4 degrees Celsius)

And, in case you’re wondering, here are the record warmest low temperatures we’re shooting for each day:

Saturday:  39 degrees (4.2 degrees Celsius)

Sunday:  42 degrees (5.5 degrees Celsius)

Monday:  47 degrees (8.3 degrees Celsius)

Tuesday:  43 degrees (6.1 degrees Celsius)

Wednesday:  47 degrees  (8.3 degrees Celsius)

Mostly sunny and warm on Saturday, with areas south of 8 Mile possibly reaching 60 degrees (15-16 degrees Celsius)!

Mostly clear Saturday night with more fog possible. Lows in the mid-30s (2 degrees Celsius).

Mostly sunny on Sunday, and it’ll be a bit cooler behind a weak cold front coming through late Saturday.  Highs in the low to mid 50s (11-12 degrees Celsius).

Mostly clear Sunday night, with lows in the upper 30s (3 to 4 degrees Celsius).

Mostly sunny on Monday, with highs in the mid 50s (13 degrees Celsius).

Tuesday is now much more uncertain, but in a good way.  A cold front will approach, but its main dynamics now look to pass farther north.  This, combined with a pretty meager amount of moisture with it, means a much reduced chance for showers.  IF anybody gets a shower, it appears that it would be later in the day, and chances are better the farther north you are.  Highs Tuesday in the mid 50s (14 degrees Celsius).

Partly sunny on Wednesday, with highs in the low to mid 50s (11 to 12 degrees Celsius).

Partly cloudy on Thursday, with highs near 50 degrees (10 degrees Celsius).

We finally get a better chance for rain at some point Friday, with highs in the upper 40s (9 degrees Celsius).

Rain showers may change to snow showers next Saturday, as colder air returns to southeast Michigan, and next Sunday looks windy and colder with a chance of snow showers. Back to winter…
