Metro Detroit weather forecast: Dry night, some rain Saturday

DETROIT – So where did those severe storms and heavy rain go today?

Well the super short answer is "south." The longer explanation is that our air was too stable to support strong storms. Temperatures were warmer above the surface than they were at the ground, and that effectively put a lid on SE Michigan, so the air couldn't rise high enough to give birth to thunderstorms. We were left with cloudy skies and light showery rain.

Tonight, about half of us will remain completely dry. We'll see showers and few rumbles, mainly south of 8 Mile. Our air becomes less humid through tonight and we'll wake up to a cool, comfortable start to Saturday with lows in the 50s.

Saturday forecast:

During the day Saturday, there will be some showers and a storm around. High pressure will try to dry out most of the rain, but not all of it. Highs Saturday will reach the mid 70s and much of Friday's humidity will return.

Sunday forecast:

Sunday brings yet another thunderstorm threat, mainly in the afternoon. Although there are some indications that we could see an isolated shower or storm in the morning. Right now we are under a slight risk for severe weather on Sunday so keep your eyes on the skies. Keep us with you too on the Local 4Casters app. Temps will warm into the low 80s.

Monday forecast:

We'll have chances of storms Monday, Thursday and Friday next week. I think we'll get a break from thunderstorms on Tuesday and Wednesday, but they'll be just south of us so it won't take much of a change to bring them into our backyards midweek. Temperatures will be pretty consistent with highs around 80 and lows in the 60s.
