DETROIT – A flood watch is in effect for southeast Michigan from midnight Monday through noon Tuesday.
Heavy overnight rain could lead to flooding problems that last into the morning commute.
We’ve been fighting drought conditions in many locations for the entire summer. Now we’re in for more rain than some of us can handle.
Widespread rain will begin falling, mainly north of Detroit, as we approach midnight. Then heavy rain fills in everywhere overnight. Expect 1 to 3 inches of rain area-wide.
There may be a couple of spots that pick up more than 4 inches of rain, but that should be north of I-69. Check out our 4ZONE Forecast to see the breakdown of our rainfall forecast.
Overnight lows will drop to around 70 degrees with plenty of humidity.
Tuesday starts soaking wet, but the widespread rain should end before the commute is done. Nevertheless, there may be lingering flooding problems, especially in highway underpasses and areas with poor drainage. Rain will be scattered through at least mid-afternoon, when a front moves through. Highs will reach only the upper 70s. Again, humidity will be tropical.
Tuesday night, we may see some areas of widespread dense fog after midnight, leading into Wednesday morning. Lows will drop to the mid-60s.
Wednesday will start with lower humidity, but that won’t last long. We’ll go back to muggy in the afternoon, and watch for scattered thunderstorms, too. Highs will be in the mid-80s.
Then we get a dry stretch Thursday and Friday until the weekend.
