Metro Detroit weather: Near record warmup ahead

Temperatures could hit 60 degrees this weekend

DETROIT – Temperatures on Thursday night will dip below freezing for the last time until next weekend, and this weekend not only looks warm, but near a record.

We’ll finish Thursday night with partly cloudy skies and light winds. Overnight lows will drop to the low and mid-20s.

On Friday, the much-advertised warmup will commence. Expect highs to reach the mid-40s under some high thin clouds.

But, oh, that weekend! We'll be mostly sunny both days. Highs Saturday will hit 60 degrees, which will be just shy of the 1976 record of 62 degrees.

Sunday we'll be slightly cooler, with highs in the low to mid-50s.

In fact, Sunday will begin a stretch of five straight days in the 50s. Most of that stretch will be completely dry with more sunshine than clouds.

Our only shot at precipitation for the next seven days will be on Tuesday, but it looks like the rain might fall apart or skirt north of us before then.

Even though we’ll cool down during the second half of next week, temperatures will still be well above average. All those numbers are in our 10-day forecast.
