Metro Detroit weather: Something for everybody!

Thunderstorms, sunshine, a taste of fall, and more summer weather

DETROIT – It’s exceedingly rare that I can please everybody with at least some aspect of my forecast but, if such a thing even exists, this might be the forecast that does it.

Don’t like hot summer weather? Check. Love hot summer weather? Check. Love sunshine? Check. Need some rain? Check (well, sort of). Read on for the details!

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible tonight. This is the only hang-up to the forecast -- most of us wouldn’t mind some rain -- and it’s possible that some of us won’t get much tonight. It’ll be a warm night, with lows in the upper 60s (that’s 20° Celsius for our Canadian neighbors across the river). Southwest wind at 2 to 5 mph.

There will likely still be scattered showers around the area to start our Wednesday, but they should diminish from north to south as a cold front moves through. Behind the front, clouds will gradually break up, and I think we’ll all finish the day with at least partial sunshine. As long as we get that sunshine, highs should rise into the mid to upper 70s (25-26° Celsius). Southwest winds ahead of the front will swing around to the northwest behind it (that’s how you’ll know the front has come through), at 5 to 10 mph. Wednesday’s sunrise is at 6:58 AM, and Wednesday’s sunset is at 8:08 p.m.

Partly cloudy to mostly clear Wednesday night, and you’ll really notice the cooler air coming in, with lows in the low to mid 50s (11-13° Celsius).

Mostly sunny to start on Thursday, then cumulus clouds will rapidly pop up by mid-to-late morning, with skies becoming mostly cloudy through late afternoon.  Some of you near the Lake Huron shoreline may even get a stray spritz as a few lake effect rain showers pop up due to the colder air flowing across the relatively warmer waters.  Highs in the low 70s (22° Celsius).  If you want a taste of fall, this is your day!

Becoming mostly clear Thursday night, with lows in the low to mid 50s (11-13° Celsius).

My forecast for Friday through Labor Day is unchanged:

Mostly sunny skies (perhaps partly cloudy by Monday), with gradual warming each day.  Here are my anticipated temperatures for your holiday weekend:

Friday:  74° / 55° (23° / 12° Celsius)

Saturday:  78° / 55° (26° / 12° Celsius)

Sunday:  83° / 59° (28° / 15° Celsius)

Monday:  87° / 65° (30° / 18° Celsius)

It’s going to be one of the most spectacular Labor Day weekends we’ve ever had…I hope you have the chance to enjoy the beautiful weather!
