Metro Detroit weather: Winter wallop coming this week

Chance of significant snowfall this weekend

DETROIT – Michigan will be getting a winter wallop more than once over the next several days.

Skies will be mostly cloudy Wednesday night. Lows will drop to the low and mid-20s, but ongoing winds will drop wind chills into the teens by daybreak.

In fact, wind chills will likely stay in the teens throughout Thursday, even with temperatures rising to 30 degrees. Winds will be brisk, at 15-25 mph. Light snow showers will be around at times Thursday, with fewer on Friday.

On Saturday, look for dry conditions with limited sunshine. Highs still won’t make it above 30 degrees.

The second half of the weekend could be bringing our first significant snow of the season. There are still significant differences in the data for Sunday, mostly on the timing, so it’s a bit early to nail down exact accumulations. No matter which model you look at, I think it's safe to say we'll be shoveling by Monday morning.

Next week will bring another blast of cold air. Highs will be only in the 20s for most locations.
