A supermoon and lunar eclipse occur for the first time in 33 years Sunday night. A supermoon happens when the moon is at its closest point to earth in its orbit. A lunar eclipse occurs with the sun, Earth and moon line up with the Earth in the middle so its shadow goes over the moon. Earth's atmosphere absorbs the sun's blue light, and this is why the moon appears red. The partial lunar eclipse begins at 9:07pm ET. The total lunar eclipse goes from 10:11pm ET to 11:23pm ET. By 11pm ET and afterward, a few breaks in the overcast may appear for a brief view of the celestial event.

Monday will be sunnier with highs in the upper 70s. Tuesday has a chance of much needed rain with a cold front. Highs will be near 75 degrees. Wednesday and Thursday will be sunnier and cooler with highs in the middle and upper 60s.
