Monday brings a wintry mix

Snow, rain then snow again

DETROIT – Monday morning will become cloudy and messy as the weather just cannot make up its mind.

With starting temps in the mid 20s, light snow and sleet move in from the south. Fortunately, any accumulations will be light (an inch or less) then melt later in the day.

As streets get more slippery, the temps actually rise above freezing.

The air goes above freezing by noon, so light snow will change to light rain. Afternoon highs will be in the upper 30s. Wind speeds increase to 10 to 20 mph.

The afternoon commute will be just as tricky as the morning's.

After 5pm, temps retreat to the freezing mark, again. Therefore, light rain will change back to light snow Monday evening and Monday night. Overnight lows will be in the upper 20s.

Tuesday will be mostly cloudy and cold with scattered lake effect snow showers.  Highs will be in the low 30s.

Spring begins with the vernal equinox at 7:02am ET, Wednesday. However, the cold trend continues under partly sunny skies and daytime temps in the mid 30s; about 10 degrees lower than average.

The rest of the week will be dry, and sunshine will help temps rise back to 40 degrees or more.
