More showers, storms and warm

Temps in the 80s

DETROIT – The last weekend for May goes from warm to cool and from wet to dry. Then, the first work-week of June becomes warmer.

Please join me on Twitter (@AndrewLocal4) for regular weather updates.

Saturday morning will be mostly cloudy to partly sunny. It will be warm and humid with temperatures near 70°F coming out of the starting gate. Families participating in early Belle Isle Grand Prix activities, the Rainbow Run in Ferndale or Relay For Life in Chesterfield Township must remain cool and hydrated as temps reach 80°F by lunchtime.

A frontal system will march from west to east across Detroit and Southeast Michigan Saturday afternoon. Showers and thunderstorms appear with falling temperatures by 3pm ET and afterward. People attending the Grand Prix, Ferndale Pride or other outdoor events must be prepared for soggy conditions and have a Plan B.

As some heavy downpours occur and lightning flashes and thunder roars, many temps north of 8 Mile will drop to the 70s and 60s by late afternoon. South of 8 Mile, temps will fall a lot less rapidly from early afternoon highs in the low 80s.

Detroit has a broad range of entertainment Saturday evening, and both Garrison Keillor devotees and Taylor Swift fans will need to use caution getting to and from downtown Detroit before and after their performances. Anyone walking to and from or standing outside the Fox Theatre or Ford Field will have to contend with lingering showers and thunderstorms. Same holds true for attendees of the Grand Opening Gala for the Ronald McDonald House at the Max M. Fisher Music Center in Detroit.

Also, spectators must prepare for much cooler arriving Saturday night. Temps will fall to the low 60s and 50s with scattered showers and storms before and around midnight. Skies remain mostly cloudy overnight as the mercury drops to the low 50s in Detroit and the middle and upper 40s in Motown's suburbs.

Sunday will gradually go from gray skies to blue skies. It will be chilly in the morning and cool in the afternoon. Afternoon temps will hover slightly above 60°F.

Monday will be mostly sunny but still feel like early fall. Daytime readings will be in the middle and upper 60s. Tuesday and the rest of next week will be mostly to partly sunny and temperatures will rise. Maximum temps will be in the 70s Tuesday and Wednesday and back in the 80s Thursday and Friday.
