DETROIT – Monday night will become colder and slipperier for shoppers, hockey fans and people going out to dinner. Flurries will become snow showers after 6 p.m. across a good portion of Southeast Michigan, including Detroit.
Detroit Red Wings fans going to and from The Joe for their game against the Islanders will need to factor in extra time arriving at and departing from the arena. The same goes for Christmas shoppers or anyone with Monday evening plans.
No heavy snow is expected, but bursts could reduce visibility greatly and suddenly for a period of time. One or two inches of snow will fall by Tuesday morning between I-69 (to the north) and I-94 (to the south).
Temperatures will plummet as well, as colder air moves in. The mercury will fall to the middle and lower teens by Tuesday morning, and temperatures will remain below freezing beyond Christmas Day.
Tuesday afternoon will be sunnier but very cold with highs in the upper teens.
A White Christmas is guaranteed because of the cold and additional snow showers on Christmas Day. Santa will be flying through the air Christmas morning with single digit readings down below. Afternoon temps will be near 25 just before Christmas dinner with on-and-off snow for families headed to grandma and grandpa's house.
The first day of Kwanzaa will still feel and look like winter with snow showers and highs in the 20s. Skies become sunnier Friday and Saturday but it remains cold.
