Nailing down the holiday weekend weather details for metro Detroit

You'll be able to enjoy some of it!

Brandon Roux is tracking warmer temperatures on Thursday.

DETROIT – Although there is still some lingering uncertainty, some of this weekend's weather details are coming into focus, and part of it looks very nice!

Tonight will bring a weak cold front downstate, with a few light showers with it. All rain will occur in the middle of the night and won't impact our evening plans or morning rush hour. Lows near 40° north where you'll be the first to get into the cooler air behind the front, and in the low to mid 40s farther south (generally, around 5-6° Celsius for you Canadians across the river). West-northwest wind at 5 to 10 mph.

Mostly sunny on Friday -- a great day to end the work week! Highs in the low 60s (16° Celsius), but cooler near the Great Lakes. Northwest wind at 8 to 13 mph.

Friday's sunrise is at 6:06 AM, and Friday's sunset is at 8:54 PM.

Mostly clear Friday night, with lows in the low 40s.

Mostly sunny on Saturday, with highs near 70°.

Mostly clear Saturday night, with lows in the mid 50s.

Increasing clouds on Sunday. Right now, it appears that rain chances will hold off until Sunday evening, so we may get the majority of the daylight hours in dry. However, this is a razor close call, so if you have outdoor plans later on Sunday, keep an eye on the Local4Casters app's radar. I'll also tweet updates this weekend to help you plan so, if you haven't already, find me on Twitter at @PGLocal4, and follow me! Highs Sunday in the mid 70s.

Showers and thunderstorms are more likely Sunday night, with lows near 60°.

Monday is still the trickiest day of the weekend. As I've been explaining all week long, there will be a solid band of showers and thunderstorms ahead of an advancing warm front, and then a break after the front passes to our north. Our problem is that the computer models don't agree upon when the front will move through the area, although I've seen a slight suggestion on a couple of models that it will come through in the morning.

If that's the case, then perhaps we can salvage part of the afternoon -- but it's way too early to say with any certainty. Earlier is obviously better for the front's timing…and especially for me as I nervously watch the models: I'll once again be co-emcee of the Farmington Memorial Day Parade. If it rains, this will be the first year of rain on our parade in the years since I've been co-emcee. I don't want to see my streak end! Highs Monday should reach the mid to upper 70s.

Regardless of the weather, at some point Monday, pause for a moment and pay tribute to those that this holiday is really for: the men and women who fought for the freedom we enjoy today, but never came home to share it with us. It started with the soldiers who fought for our nation's independence, and continues to this day with the fight against terrorism. We owe a great deal of gratitude to these brave souls and, while Memorial Day has become branded as the "unofficial start of summer," the day has a much deeper meaning than that. Always remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice so the rest of us can enjoy that burger and dog with our family and friends.

The rest of the forecast needs to be broad-brushed: we basically have a chance of showers and thunderstorms through Thursday of next week. It won't rain all day every day…there will be dry periods. But we won't be able to shake this stubborn weather system for several days. Fortunately, we'll be on the warm side of the system, so daytime highs should be in the upper 70s to near 80°, and overnight lows in the low to mid 60s. No frost in this southeast Michigan forecast, so go ahead and plant those flowers!
