DETROIT – Sloppy and slippery weather dominate Saturday's weather scene across Detroit and Southeast Michigan. Ice and water increasingly become dangerous concerns after nightfall. Here is the break down of all local weather alerts:
ICE STORM WARNING
An Ice Storm Warning is in effect for Genesee, Lapeer, Livingston, Macomb, Oakland, Sanilac and St. Clair Counties until 7am, Sunday. Areas north of 8 Mile Road could experience an accumulation of one quarter inch to a half inch of ice on roads, trees and wires. Drivers must exercise extreme caution on highways, side streets, ramps, bridges and overpasses. Pedestrians need to be equally alert while walking on sidewalks, driveways, parking lots and any paved surfaces. Power outages and falling power lines, branches and trees are possible.
WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY
A Winter Weather advisory is in effect for Washtenaw County until 7am, Sunday. Up to a tenth of an inch of ice may form.
FLOOD WATCH AND FLOOD WARNING
A Flood Watch is in effect for the City of Detroit and the rest of Wayne County and Lenawee and Monroe Counties until 4pm, Sunday. A Flood Warning is in effect along the Lower Rouge River near Inkster Sunday morning because it will rise above flood stage. Residents should move to higher ground. Drivers must find alternate routes if they come across any standing water.
Chilly rain and freezing rain will fall across Southeast Michigan Saturday evening into Sunday morning. The best chance of ice will be in areas north of 8 Mile Road. Temps will range from freezing or lower in communities such as Howell, Pontiac and Warren northward to just above 32 degrees in Detroit and the rest of Southeast Michigan to the Ohio border.
Temps will rise above freezing after 8am, Sunday, but it remains slick due to rain. It will still chilly, too, with temps in the middle and upper 30s Sunday afternoon.
Colder air moves back in Sunday night resulting in a rain-snow mix and refreezing in many areas. Temps will plummet to 20 degrees or lower by Monday morning.
Frigid air remains draped over southern Michigan with on and off snow showers Monday and Christmas Day. Nighttime lows will be in the single digits, and daytime highs will be in the teens and 20s. Youngsters and their families need to bundle up, but this will be no problem for Santa and the chance for a White Christmas remains in tact.
