DETROIT – The first two days of the work-week may be murky but will be milder than average. Then it feels like December after Tuesday night.

Monday afternoon will be cloudy with some sprinkles and light rain. A southwesterly wind at 5 to 10 mph will bring relatively warm air into Southeast Michigan. Highs will be just above 50 degrees. Anyone driving home from work, picking up their children from school or shopping for presents will have some damp roads to contend with during the PM rush hour.

A chance of drizzle remains for Monday evening with temperatures in the upper 40s.

Monday night has a better chance of rain by midnight and afterward. Dense fog may form, again, after midnight as low temps reach the low 40s. As with the past few nights, ice will not be an issue for drivers and pedestrians by Tuesday morning.

Tuesday will remain overcast. Visibility will be low in the morning with waves of light to moderate showers across the Detroit area. It will be another warmer-than-average day with the mercury rising to the low 50s in the afternoon.

As Hanukkah begins, a cold front passes Tuesday night ushering in colder, December-like air. Lows will return middle and low 20s; average for Southeast Michigan. Precipitation is still possible with light snow turning to flurries resulting in minimal accumulation. However, streets will be slipperier by Wednesday.

Flurries will still be in the forecast Wednesday. Winter coats will be needed again for the rest of the week. Wednesday's highs will be near 35 degrees. Thursday and Friday will be partly to mostly sunny and cold with highs in the low 30s and lows in the 20s.

Astronomical winter begins at 6:03pm ET, Sunday.
