Local 4Casters: Sunny morning, stormy afternoon Sunday

Highs in the low 80s

DETROIT – Sunday will be warmer and stormier than the last couple of days in metro Detroit. Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are possible with a "slight risk" of those storms becoming severe, especially south of Hall Road.

Sunday morning and midday will be mostly to partly sunny. The day starts off cool with temps in the 50s at dawn. With a southerly wind, temps rise quickly to the 70s by noon. This will be the driest portion of the day for families headed to and from services, going to any outdoor activities or performing any chores.

Showers and thunderstorm will develop and race across Detroit and southeast Michigan Sunday afternoon ahead of a cold front. After 2 p.m., storms will appear in Detroit's western suburbs. As they march through the region, many storm will intensify with heavy downpours, strong winds and more frequent lightning.

The National Weather Service has placed areas south of Hall Road (Lenawee, Livingston, southern Macomb, Monroe, southern Oakland, Washtenaw and Wayne Counties) in the "slight risk" category, which means there's a chance storms will become severe.

Some wind damage and ponding on roads may occur along with frequent lightning. Families must stay tuned to react quickly and keep themselves and others safe, should the weather turn nasty.

Also, it will become warmer Sunday afternoon with highs in the low 80s.

Showers and thunderstorm persist Sunday evening with temperatures in the 70s. Detroiters must exercise the same amount of caution as waves of storms roll through the area. Staying indoors will be the best option if heavy rain and damaging wind persist.

After 11 p.m. Sunday night, the weather will become calmer. It remains warm with lows in the upper 60s under mostly to partly cloudy skies.

Monday will stay warm and partly sunny. There is a chance of a few pop-up showers during the day. Daytime temps will be in the upper 70s.

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday will be sunnier and warm. Each day will have morning temps in the upper 50s to the low and mid 60s and afternoon readings in the low to middle 80s.
