PORTLAND, Mich. – The National Weather Service has confirmed that a tornado touched down in Portland, Mich. Monday afternoon.
Ionia County Sheriff Dale Miller tells WoodTV that emergency crews responded to the area of E. Grand River Avenue in Portland. A few people were trapped but have gotten out safely.

The EF1 tornado brought winds of around 100 mph.
Five people reportedly suffered minor injuries. No serious injuries have been reported.
"This time we were very, very fortunate. We have had no fatalities reported at this time. Minimal injuries -- cuts and bruises. We had no one, I repeat no one, transported to the hospital," said Portland Fire Chief John Baker.
