Quiet weather the next two days in metro Detroit

Then things get active again

DETROIT – Skies will become partly cloudy tonight, with overnight low temperatures around 10° probably occurring before midnight.

Increased cloud cover and wind (8 to 14 mph) later tonight will cause temperatures to rise into the mid teens by the time you leave for work in the morning -- although wind chills will be near or a little below zero.

Even if we see a few peeks of sun early, most of our Friday should be mostly cloudy. On the positive side, temperatures will warm a solid ten degrees from this afternoon's readings, topping out in the mid 20s. Southwest wind at 10 to 15 mph will keep afternoon wind chills in the teens -- more than manageable for the kickoff of Winter Blast!

Cloudy Friday night with a light snow shower possible mainly well north of I-69. Lows in the mid 20s.

Cloudy on Saturday with a light snow shower still possible well north of I-69. Even milder, with highs in the low 30s -- what an awesome day to head downtown for Winter Blast!

Cloudy with a chance of light snow showers Saturday night, with lows in the mid 20s.

Sunday is still somewhat tricky, because the upper level disturbance that will generate a Great Lakes storm system is still well out over the data-poor Pacific. It won't cross the west coast until late Friday and, only after that point, will our land-based weather balloon network begin to directly observe its structure and physics. Based upon today's computer models, light snow and possibly some freezing rain (across our southern areas) are possible. Highs in the upper 20s.

By the way, think about this: That upper level disturbance will travel from the Pacific northwest all the way here just between Friday night and midday Sunday -- strong jet stream winds can really move these things!

Any ice should change over to snow Sunday night, with some accumulation possible. Lows in the mid teens.

Lingering snow should end Monday morning, and it'll be breezy and colder with highs in the low 20s.

Gradual clearing Monday night, with lows in the single numbers.

Mostly sunny on Tuesday, with highs in the mid 20s.

Increasing clouds Tuesday night, with lows in the mid teens.

A chance of snow and possibly some ice on Wednesday, with highs in the mid to upper 20s.

Windy and bitterly cold with sub-zero wind chill and snow showers on Thursday. Near steady temperatures in the low to mid teens.
