DETROIT – Cooler air continued spreading into the area today, but the colder temperatures also moving in aloft have kept things relatively unstable this afternoon, so some showers are possible before sunset, with the most numerous activity once again falling north of M-59. I’d love to see some of that rain move farther south, where so many people desperately need some.
Skies will rapidly clear overnight, with lows in the mid to upper 50s (14-15 degrees Celsius). Wind becoming northwest at 2 to 5 mph. This evening’s sunset is at 9:13 p.m.

Mostly sunny on Wednesday. This will probably be the nicest day of the rest of the week. Highs in the upper 70s (26 degrees Celsius). Northwest wind at 4 to 8 mph becoming south, late.

Increasing clouds Wednesday night, with showers and thunderstorms developing between midnight and dawn. Lows in the low 60s (16-17 degrees Celsius).
Showers and thunderstorms are likely on Thursday (but not all day), and some strong storms are possible. Highs will be highly dependent upon the timing of a warm front moving northward across the area. If the front comes through by early afternoon, then we may shoot up into the upper 80s (31 degrees Celsius). However, if the front moves through a little later, which I think is more likely, then we’ll have highs in the low to mid 80s (28-29 degrees Celsius).

Showers and thunderstorms are likely Friday ahead of a cold front. The storms end once the front passes by, which will probably be mid-afternoon. Highs in the low to mid 80s (28-29 degrees Celsius).

Partly cloudy on Saturday, and I now have to introduce a chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms during the warmest part of the afternoon. Highs in the mid 70s (24 degrees Celsius) will feel very comfortable, as long as we can keep the rain away.

A lot of people have been asking me when we’ll finally transition to "regular" summer weather. I took a look at the long-range computer models today, and it appears that we’ll transition toward the type of summer weather we’re more accustomed to starting in the middle of next week.
Out of the Office
I’ll be out the rest of the week so that I can attend the American Meteorological Society’s annual conference for broadcast meteorologists. This year’s meeting is in Kansas City, and it’ll feature the usual excellent continuing education I crave every year.
